A Spring Break Getaway

Camping at Krause Springs was ther perfect getaway I needed during spring break. My boyfriend and I planned to do this because he had just gotten his dream truck, a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, and the back seat can lay flat down so we were able to camp in the car. The night before, we went to the store to get all our camping gear. We bought sleeping bags, lamps, headlights, and cooking material. I was glad he had done the research before because he knew exactly what we needed to survive the night. We ended up spending 3 hours in the store and I do not want to talk about how much everything cost. However, all of this gear can be used for our future camping trips.

We got home, organized everything in the car so that in the morning we could just wake up and go. The drive was about an hour away from Austin, passing this really beautiful neightborhood, Bee Cave. This area was so nice, the houses on the hills you can see are just stunning. Once we arrived we got our tickets and selected our camping spot. After settling in and exploring the campsite and the springs, we came back to our spot and laid down in the back of the truck. With the hatch open and the weather being so perfect, we took a nap. It felt so peaceful and warm and fresh. We made burgers and fries and decided it was time for a swim.

They have a pool that is from the natural springs and at the bottom there is the big springs swimming hole. The pathway was very dangerous, the rocks were super slipperly, and there wasn’t an exact safe way for me to enter the springs. Good thing we brought a float tube because as I was trying to go into the water carefully, the grass next to the water was slimy and I slipped into the extremely cold water and held onto that float tube to save me. We tried swimming around for a bit but it was more like holding on to the tube for dear life. The water was so cold and it felt like they gave up and I couldn’t feel them swimming anymore. I said the weather was perfect as it wasn’t too hot or cold, so I need to come back in high Texas heat to feel grateful for this cold water. We went to the spring pool right after and it was just as cold but very nice to just relax because we could actually stand up and touch the ground.

We made our way through the garden that had a lot of musical chimes playing. We sat in the hammocks and might’ve fallen asleep for a quick second but again it just felt so nice outside. We then made burgers and fries which were still delicious the second time. We just relaxed most of the time, hiked around to find out there wasn’t much to hike, and before we knew it, it was night already. Thank goodness they had decent showers and restrooms, I am just a little high maintenance. After I got out of the super cold shower, and we made it back to our campsite, it was a beautiful spot for stargazing. The stars were unreal. I cannot believe I got to see how amazing and bright they are. This was my favorite part about camping. We knew that sleeping might’ve been a bit uncomfortable, and this was true, but for next time we know we just need to buy something for under our sleeping bags and blankets. We woke up, cooked a quick breakfast, and packed up all our material. Then we made a last stroll around the camp and headed home. This truly was an amazing camping trip and I am really glad I got to experience this with my boyfriend.
