Some of my interests are listening to music, watching movies and TV shows, reading, and collecting each of those physical media versions. My boyfriend and I are big media lovers. One way that we spend time together— medium distance relationship version —is by FaceTiming and watching our show or a movie. The process is so funny; we take forever to find a new show or movie, figure out where to watch it, do a countdown to start at the same time, and then mute one another. What I love about this is that even though we aren’t together, we turn to the phone at the same time with the same reaction to a moment that happened. By now, we’ve gotten quite good at communicating our thoughts about a scene without verbally speaking. Some shows I have been watching recently are The Pitt, Bridgerton, My Lady Jane, and I just started Smallville.
I absolutely love going to the movies. The movie theaters here in San Marcos, Evo Theatres, are so cool. It’s a smaller theater, which makes it feel cozier, and on Tuesdays, any movie playing is five dollars! I like how they do flashback movies; I got to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in theaters—such a unique experience. My movie snack order is: candy from the dollar store that I sneak in, so Airhead Bites, a Coke Icee, and popcorn! In my first year in San Marcos, my boyfriend and I decided to walk to the theater and watch Five Nights at Freddy’s. Once we got out of the theater, it was 12 a.m., and we had to walk back! I get scared easily, so I had him call us an Uber, because there was no way I was doing that.
I’ve always liked collecting random knickknacks, things I buy at a farmers market, souvenirs from when I travel, cards or gifts given to me. I like to cherish anything. Once I watch something that I really love, that becomes my whole personality. San Marcos Film Lab is a film development lab that also sells DVDs, VHS, cameras, and more. It’s a really cool small business, and this is typically where I buy my physical media. I find movies from my childhood, movie series like The Amazing Spider-Man. My favorite find, however, has been a VHS of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets! Along with DVDs, I’ve gotten back into reading, so when I find that a movie is actually a book, I buy it and read it. My main reads recently have been just from movies or show adaptations; I enjoy comparing the two. The collection I am working on right now is to collect all of the Gossip Girl books, but by thrifting them only. So far, I’ve found three. As a gift, I own the series on DVD!
